Raiders girls fall to Wallkill in Section 9 playoffs (2010-03-04)

The Red Hook girls basketball team saw its season end with a 56-38 loss to top-ranked Wallkill in a Section 9, Class A playoff contest in Wallkill on Thursday evening.

The two teams battled head to toe in the first half of the game with the Panthers taking a 10-7 lead after one period. Red Hook outscored Wallkill 11-10 in the second stanza to whittle the Panthers' advantage to 21-18 as the two squads headed to the locker room.

The game remained close through much of the third period until Wallkill used a big spurt with less than three minutes to go in the quarter to outscore the Raiders in the period by a count of 23-15. The Panthers sealed the deal by going on a 13-5 blitz to close out the game.

Makenzie Burud paced the Red Hook offensive attack with 15 points. Sabrina Eggink canned 14 points in the setback. Samantha Rapoli chipped in with five points for the locals.
