Red Hook dug itself an early hole and then fell just short in its comeback attempt as the Raiders dropped an 11-9 verdict to John S. Burke Catholic in Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association girls lacrosse action played on Saturday in Goshen.
The Eagles forged a 5-2 advantage after the first half and then held on as the Raiders outscored them in the second half by a margin of 7-6. Red Hook outshot the Eagles 27-16 on the afternoon.
Elena Howland was an offensive dynamo for the Raiders, scoring five goals. Sophia Laing added a goal and an assist for Red Hook with teammates Catherine Hare, Britta Brudvig and Catherine Kilduff also adding scores for the locals.
Hajar Ismail recorded made five saves in goal for the Raiders.
