Local tracksters excel at Section 9 championships (2010-05-26)

Several local athletes from Rhinebeck and Red Hook performed well at Wednesday's Section 9 track & field championships at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. Both the Hawks and Raiders had several athletes bring home gold for their efforts.

Rhinebeck's Casey Loeber dashed to a first place finish in the 400 meters and blazed to a third place showing in the 200. Annabel Clarke was also victorious in the girl's 1500 meter run.

The Hawks were victorious in three different relays. The boys captured both the 1,600 and 3,200 relays. Dylan Nowik, Zak Wills, Dan Franco and Johnny Marvin teamed up to finish first in the 1,600. The same quartet also brought home the first place medals for the 3,200 meter relay.

Annabel Clarke, Isabelle O'Leary, Annie Miglino and Anna Clark made up the Hawks relay squad that took first place in the 3,200.

For RedHook, Mary McArhtur had a first place winning toss in the discus and she rounded out her afternoon by placing third in the shot put. Whitney Fraleigh captured gold in the girls javelin event. Amanda Shaffer was second in the shot put and took home bronze in the discus.

Josh Stary was the lone Red Hook boys competitor to grab a first place finish. Stary was tops in the triple jump.
