Locals take home some gold at MHAL track & field championships (2010-05-20)

Ellenville's boys captured the team championship with Rondout Valley's girls team following suit in Thursday's Mid-Hudson Athletic League track & field championships at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. A handful of Rhinebeck and Red Hook athletes were able to bring home gold for their efforts against the league's best.

Rhinebeck's Annabel Clarke crossed the finish line first in the 2,000 meter steeplechase with a clocking of 7:06.7. Clarke then teamed with Anna Clark, Annie Miglino and Isabelle O'Leary to win the girls 3,200 relay race.

For the Rhinebeck boys, Dylan nowik was victorious in the boys 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:29.3. The Hawks team of Nowik, Zak Wills, Dan Frando and David williams placed second in the 3,200 meter relay.

Red Hook's Amanda Shaffer brought home gold for the Raiders when she chucked the discus 102 feet, nine inches. Shaffer also finished third in the shot put. Shaffer's teammate, Mary McArthur was third in the discus event.

Josh Stary was the lone Red Hook boy to garner a first place finish. Stary won the long jump with a leap of 20'-5". Stary also took home a bronze with a third place showing in the triple jump.
